SWEDISH TOAST
Ingredients
- 1 c. shortening
- 1-1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 c. buttermilk or sour cream
- 4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 18 cardamom seeds, crushed
Instructions
- Cream together shortening and sugar. Add remaining ingredients in the order given.
- Mix in order given. Spread into 11-1/2 x 17 inch cookie sheet and bake about 25 minutes in 350 degree oven. Cut into pieces and turn on sides and place in very slow oven until dry.

Mom called these Scorpa’s .. and they were delicious!
Yes, they were outstanding. Their really good dunking in coffee. My kids always loved them. I try to get them every Christmas. 60 yrs ago, we would go to a Widens bakery in Chicago.
