SHEPHERDS PIE
Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 2 Tbsp. fat
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 2 c. cooked peas & carrots (can use canned)
- 2 c. seasoned, hot mashed potatoes
- Butter
Instructions
- Brown beef in hot fat; add onions. Cook until tender but not brown. Stir in soup and place in greased 1-1/2 quart casserole. Then sprinkle peas and carrots over. Arrange the mashed potatoes in a ring on top, allowing peas and carrots to show through. Dribble butter over all and bake uncovered in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 25 minutes. (Using instant mashed potatoes saves time.)
Notes
Become familiar with the various cuts of meat. A great deal of money can be saved by learning to use the cheaper cuts rather than expensive ones. In many cases they will be more flavorful than expensive ones.
