BRAIDED SWEDISH CARDAMOM COFFEE CAKE
 
Ingredients
  • 2 c. milk
  • ½ c. butter (1 stick)
  • 1 c. sugar
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 pkgs. dry yeast
  • ¼ c. lukewarm water
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 tsp. ground cardamom or 10 seeds, crushed
  • 8 c. white flour
Instructions
  1. Scald milk; add to butter, sugar and salt. Stir to dissolve; let cool. Add eggs and yeast which has been softened in ¼ cup lukewarm water; add cardamom and about 6 cups of flour. Turn onto cloth and knead in remaining flour. Let rise until double, Shape into 4 braids; put in greased loaf pans. Let rise again. Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees about 25 minutes. Makes 4 loaves.
